Originally from Toronto, in 1984 I moved to the scenic Hockley Valley near Orangeville Ontario, where I am well known as a guitarist, guitar teacher, composer, and luthier.
I began playing guitar at age ten. My formal training includes classical and flamenco technique with David Phillips, former Musical Director of the Paula Marino Spanish Dance Company and founder of the Flamenco Guitar School of Toronto, and fingerstyle jazz with Peter Harris, former head of the renowned Humber College guitar program. I have also studied with Canadian jazz guitarist Lorne Lofsky, privately and through York University courses.
Playing professionally for over 25 years, I have performed concerts and provided music for many special occasions locally and in the greater Toronto area (GTA). Venues include Theatre Orangeville, The McMichael Art Gallery in Kleinburg, the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington and many prestigious resorts and restaurants such as the Millcroft Inn and the Hockley Valley Resort.
In 1993, the LaBrash/Piltch duo was created with flutist, Susan Piltch. One year later we released our first CD, ‘The Moon and Flowers’. A second recording, ‘Nature’s Play’ was released in 1996. Many of the pieces on the recordings are my own compositions. Both CD’s received national airplay on CBC and other radio stations and continue to do so.
I have been an enthusiastic and dedicated guitar teacher for many years. Most of my time these days is divided between teaching my wonderful students in my Hockley Valley studio and building classical guitars. However I still perform music for small dinner partys, art shows and other suitable venues.
